At Nautilus Sound & Wellness, we believe that every vibration tells a story. The story of who you are and where you’ve been.

The Science of Sound

Sound is more than something we hear. It is vibration, and the body responds to vibration at a physiological level.

The nervous system is constantly scanning for cues of safety or threat. Rhythm and tone can act as cues of safety, supporting a shift from sympathetic activation (fight-or-flight) into parasympathetic regulation (rest-and-digest).

Research in music therapy and sound-based practices indicates that intentional sound immersion may:

  • Slow heart rate and breathing

  • Support vagal tone, which plays a key role in nervous system regulation

  • Improve mood and emotional processing

  • Enhance focus and sleep quality

Research suggests rhythmic auditory stimulation may influence patterns of brainwave activity. Slower, steady tones may encourage movement toward alpha and theta states, which are associated with relaxation, creativity, and restorative rest.

When the nervous system shifts into a calmer state, the body can redirect energy toward restoration and integration.

In sound healing sessions, sound is not used to “fix” the body. It creates the conditions in which the body can regulate itself

About Betzy

headshot of Betzy McCauley

I’m Betzy McCauley, founder of Nautilus Sound & Wellness. I created this practice to offer a grounded, restorative space where people can step out of chronic stress and reconnect with a steadier internal state.

My path into this work began when I became more aware of how deeply stress lives in the body. Experiencing the impact of sound and nervous system regulation firsthand reshaped how I understood wellbeing and inspired me to build this practice.

My work centers on nervous system regulation through immersive sound. I use crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, gongs, harmonium, monochord, chimes, tuned pipes, and percussion instruments to create intentional sound environments that gently guide the body into calm.

Clients often describe my presence as calm and steady. My intention is to create a supportive space where you can fully relax and allow your body’s natural regulation to unfold.

  • "Betzy brings a rare level of presence, intuition, and genuine care to her sound sessions. During our work together, I feel deeply supported and able to fully relax — almost as if my entire system is being given permission to rest. It truly feels like a massage for the nervous system. After just four private sessions, I noticed a significant shift in my overall sense of calm and regulation. Even small things changed — for the first time in my life, I was able to grow my fingernails, which for me was a sign of how much my stress levels had decreased. The private sessions offer a level of personalization and depth that is incredibly powerful."
